One more headline: a Chinese mining magnate, billed as a 500-billion-yuan 'invisible mining king,' is committing 1.2 billion yuan as a fund LP (limited partner). The AI link is unclear, so watch it and don't act on it.

The big story

Meta releases Muse Spark Open. Meta released the weights for Muse Spark Open, an open-weight model billed as the most capable US open-weight model to date. It targets coding, agentic work and long-horizon tasks. Size, licence and cost are not stated.

What this means for you:

  • Small business owner: ask your developer if a downloadable coding model could replace a paid one.
  • Job seeker or student: practise building coding agents on a model you can download.
  • Creator: automate repetitive scripts with a coding agent you control.

Nvidia lets agents tune your GPU. IGN reports Nvidia's app (a GPU control app) will let AI agents tune your graphics card, and some users are warning people to switch it off. Takeaway: leave it off until you can say what the agent changed and how to undo it. Price not stated.

Anthropic tests AI worms. Anthropic (an AI lab) tested how AI worms might spread through smart-home attacks, NeoTeo reports, using emulators rather than real homes. Details are thin, but the lesson holds: agents that act on devices need limits. Takeaway: give any agent the narrowest permissions it needs.

Agent skills go to the lab. On GitHub Trending, K-Dense-AI/scientific-agent-skills (a library of science agent skills) was gaining 1,158 stars a day and sat at about 51,000 total, dev.to reports. Takeaway: browse it for ideas on packaging your own repeatable task as a skill.

LobsterAI pays for a DeepSeek outage. NetEase's LobsterAI (an AI product) announced compensation for users hit by a DeepSeek (AI model maker) outage, arriving within 7 working days. A downstream product paid for an upstream failure. Takeaway: if you depend on one model, line up a backup.

What an empty prompt costs. A dev.to post measures the baseline tokens four coding-agent command-line tools spend on an empty prompt, before you type a word. Takeaway: send an empty prompt in your own tool, check the token count, and repeat after changing settings.

PR comments back to your agent. Another dev.to post pulls pull-request review comments with gh (GitHub's command-line tool) and jq (a JSON filter), then hands them to a coding agent with one prompt. Takeaway: pipe the comments in, ask the agent to address each, and review the diff yourself. Price not stated.

03

Tool of the day

Ollama (a local model runner) downloads open-weight models and runs them on your own machine, so you can try coding agents without a hosted service. Good for testing, learning and private experiments. Limits: big models need serious memory, and whether Muse Spark Open is available there is not stated. Alternative: LM Studio, from a different company. Price not stated.

Worth it if... you are a builder who wants to test open weights at home.

04

Model guide

Model type: open weights and licences. Open-weight means you can download the trained model files and run them yourself, on your own machine or servers. That is not the same as open source: the licence decides what you may do with the files. Before building a product, check four things: whether commercial use is allowed, whether there are limits on how many users you can serve, whether an acceptable-use policy restricts your use case, and whether you may modify and redistribute the model. Open weights suit builders and teams who want control over cost, data privacy and uptime. Today's story about NetEase's LobsterAI compensating users after a DeepSeek outage is a reminder of the risk of depending on one hosted service. Running a model yourself removes that dependency, but you then take on the hardware and upkeep.

Latest: Meta has introduced Muse Spark Open, which The Tech Outlook calls its most capable US open-weight model to date. It is aimed at coding, agentic and long-horizon work, meaning tasks where a model plans and acts over many steps. The story does not state its size, licence terms or hardware needs, so do not assume it will run on a laptop or that it is free for commercial use. Wait for the model card and licence before planning a deployment.

Until tomorrow

Thanks for spending your Saturday in the garage. Tomorrow we're watching what builders learn about running Muse Spark Open.

The Agent Signal is independent and self-funded: one person built it, with no investors and no ads, and every share and every bit of support keeps it going. Thank you.
