Oracle puts its business software inside ChatGPT with four new services

Oracle and OpenAI announced four services that let people use company accounting and procurement tools from ChatGPT, including a bundle for small US firms.

The short version

Why it matters

Until now, most big software makers have added AI assistants inside their own apps. Here the chat window becomes the front door to the company's systems, which could cut the time spent learning each screen. It also makes permissions and human sign-off the main safeguards when an AI can act in accounting or purchasing tools.

What Oracle and OpenAI announced

Oracle, a major seller of business software for accounting, purchasing and similar work, announced a wider partnership with OpenAI on October 27 (US time). The news came at its Oracle AI World 2026 event in Las Vegas, and OpenAI published its own announcement the same day. As note reported, the package contains four new services that let people use Oracle's business software and data from inside ChatGPT.

The common thread is that the work happens where employees already chat with an AI, rather than in a separate application with its own menus.

The four services, one by one

Oracle AI Workspace uses plugins, which are add-on features for ChatGPT, to connect Oracle's software and data. The idea is that employees can look up information and move tasks forward by following procedures their company has approved. The report indicates this piece is still under development.

Oracle AI Security Mesh uses OpenAI models built for defending against cyberattacks. It helps find and fix vulnerabilities, meaning weak spots, in company apps and servers. The customer chooses which areas get scanned, and fixes are applied only after the customer approves them.

Oracle App Composer lets people build business apps with Codex, OpenAI's AI for writing programs. Oracle says specialized programming knowledge is not required. Oracle runs the apps, while the company's IT staff manage users and data.

Oracle AI SMB Bundle is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses. It is free to start and includes ChatGPT Business, the corporate version of ChatGPT, plus Codex. It adds $12,000 a year in credits, which are usage allowances for paying for Oracle Cloud services, and a tool called NetSuite QuickStart for invoices and cash flow.

A reversal of the usual direction

The note author's commentary points out that the common pattern has been AI placed inside each company's apps. Microsoft puts Copilot into Word and Excel, and Google puts Gemini into Gmail and Docs. Here the flow runs the other way: a worker opens ChatGPT first, then calls up accounting or purchasing systems from there.

The author notes that other AI companies are moving in a similar direction. Anthropic's Claude, for example, offers connectors to external services. What stands out this time is that a large business-software vendor has put ChatGPT forward as the main entrance.

For workers, the author sees two effects. Learning each system's screens may matter less, since you might simply ask in words what is left for the month-end closing. OpenAI's own example is a new accounting employee looking up expenses through ChatGPT. At the same time, knowing your company's approval rules and being able to phrase a clear request become more valuable.

The fine print for small businesses

The SMB bundle has tight conditions, according to Oracle's blog as cited in the report. It is meant for private, for-profit, independent US companies. Applicants go through screening and must provide details such as credit card information. Government agencies, non-profits and cryptocurrency businesses are not eligible.

The $12,000 credit runs for a maximum of 3 years, with conditions checked each year. Usage beyond the credit is paid for. Buying OpenAI products through Oracle's sales channels is also limited to Oracle customers in the US, so this is not something a company outside the US can use right away.

OpenAI also reported that Oracle has over 130,000 ChatGPT users and over 95,000 Codex users inside the company.

What is still unknown

The announcement does not give launch dates or pricing for the four services. It also does not say whether they will be offered in Japan or support Japanese. Those gaps matter, because the practical value depends on when the tools arrive and what they cost.

The note author also stresses that when an AI performs operations in business systems, errors are a real risk. The recommended safeguard is to keep an approval process in which a person makes the final check. Oracle's own description of the services leans on the same idea of customer-set limits and approvals.

What to watch

Try it

You do not need Oracle to practice. Pick one task you repeat every month and write down its steps, the data used, who must approve it and which parts an AI could do. If you use ChatGPT at work, check with your IT team before connecting anything.
