Gemini can now build and edit files in chat, and rewrite whole slide decks

Google added two Gemini features aimed at the tedious cleanup that follows an AI-written draft: in-chat file editing and deck-wide slide changes.

The short version

Why it matters

AI has made the first draft fast, but fixing wording and matching a company's look still eats time. These features try to shrink that second step. Organizations that manage Workspace should note that administrators cannot control either feature.

The problem: the draft is the easy part

As kn.itmedia.co.jp reported, many companies already use AI to outline slides and draft documents. The catch is what comes next: the text needs refining, and the design, fonts and colors must match the company's own standards.

In the article's framing, AI sped up going from nothing to a first version, but turning that version into a polished one still takes a lot of human time.

Feature one: finish the file inside chat

Google first announced that Gemini can create files, preview them and edit them within the chat window. Supported file types include Google Slides, Sheets and Docs. Users can edit directly, select a piece of text to ask about it, or ask Gemini to change it.

PDF preview and editing works on both web and mobile. Other formats are web only. Finished files can be exported to Workspace apps or saved as outside files, so no switch to another tool is needed along the way.

It is available to all Google Workspace users, Workspace Individual subscribers and people with a personal Google account.

Feature two: one prompt, whole deck

The next day came a bulk-editing tool inside Google Slides. You type an instruction in the side panel, and Gemini decides which slides are affected. It can update content throughout, refresh the visual style, or combine several slides.

The results arrive as normal slides you can adjust by hand, not as flat images, and you can roll back through version history.

At launch it supports English only. It covers several paid tiers, including Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Google AI Pro, Google AI Ultra and Google AI Pro for Education.

Limits and what to check

Until December 1, Google is relaxing usage limits for making multi-slide presentations with Gemini. After that, per-user limits are planned.

The report says neither feature has administrator controls, which may matter to IT teams that want to decide who can use AI tools on company documents.

What to watch

Try it

If you have access, ask Gemini in the Slides side panel to restyle a copy of an old deck, then check that the slides remain editable and that version history can undo the change.
