Claude adds a read-only personal finance tool for US paid subscribers
Anthropic's new beta lets Claude read your bank and card data and answer money questions in plain language, but it cannot move money or give investment advice.
The short version
- Beta rolling out this week to US subscribers on Claude Pro, Max or Ultra plans
- Claude sees bank and account names, last four digits, balances, credit limits and 2 years of transactions
- Access is read-only: it cannot transfer, manage or invest your money
- No ads or sponsored recommendations, and it sells no cards, loans or savings accounts
- Anthropic says Claude can make mistakes, so check key figures in your bank account
Why it matters
Many people never really look at where their money goes, because it means opening several bank sites and doing the arithmetic by hand. A tool that gathers it all and explains it in everyday language could lower that barrier. It also asks you to share sensitive data, so the read-only limit and the habit of double-checking matter.
What Claude can see and do
As finance.technews.tw reported, Claude now has a "Personal Finance" option in its sidebar. You connect your bank and credit card accounts, then ask questions in ordinary conversation. Claude answers from your transactions and balances, and explains unfamiliar terms along the way.
It sees the bank name, account name and last four digits, balances, credit limits, and 2 years of transaction history. It cannot move, manage or invest your money, and it is meant to help you understand your finances, not to give investment advice.
What a conversation looks like
In Anthropic's example, a user ten days from payday asks where the month's money went. Claude adds up spending across accounts and reports $4,309.37 in total. More than half went to rent and utilities, and $1,024.51 went to food.
Follow-up questions work too. Claude can say whether the month is unusual, spot a membership renewal, and count the four payments due before payday. It can also flag a fee charged twice, an unexpected fee, or a bill that quietly went up.
It can also explain APR, the yearly percentage cost of borrowing, and work out how much interest you were charged. Beyond that, it can produce a weekly spending chart, a calendar of due dates, or a custom dashboard.
Limits to keep in mind
The beta is for US paid subscribers only, and the source gives no dates for other countries. Anthropic says the feature has no ads or sponsored recommendations.
The company also admits Claude can get things wrong. If a number looks off, check which transactions make it up in your bank account. Anthropic calls this a first step and wants to work with regulated financial firms and professionals later.
What to watch
- When, or whether, the feature reaches users outside the US
- What Anthropic builds with regulated financial firms and professionals
Try it
If you are a US Pro, Max or Ultra subscriber, look for Personal Finance in the sidebar. Ask for last month's spending, then check the total against your bank statement.
