The short version

Why it matters

This launch shows how Chinese automakers are increasingly integrating advanced AI models directly into vehicle software. It also highlights a shift toward offering diverse powertrain options, from budget petrol engines to long-range plug-in hybrids, to capture different market segments.

Expanding the Jetour T1 lineup

Chery officially launched the Jetour T1 series in China on November 4, 2026. While the brand previously focused on a 2.0T all-wheel-drive model, the new lineup introduces a more affordable 1.5T front-wheel-drive entry model. This addition allows the brand to target a broader range of consumers by offering different price points and configurations.

The new entry-level version is priced at 89,900 yuan, which is approximately 13,500 USD under a specific promotional trade-in offer. This is a significant step down from the original 2.0T model that debuted in early 2025 with a starting price of 129,900 yuan. The brand is positioning this new model to compete in the high-volume, budget-friendly SUV segment.

The total lineup now includes four 1.5T trims, two 2.0T Plus trims, and three Plus C-DM plug-in hybrid configurations. These variations allow buyers to choose between different power outputs and drivetrain preferences. Each model maintains the signature boxy SUV design that has become a staple of the Jetour brand identity.

Powertrains and performance specs

The entry-level T1 utilizes a 1.5TGDI turbocharged petrol engine. This setup produces 135 kW of power and 290 N·m of torque, paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. This configuration is designed for front-wheel-drive operation and runs on 92-octane petrol, providing a balance of efficiency and cost for daily driving.

For drivers seeking more capability, the T1 Plus features a 2.0T engine producing 187 kW and 390 N·m. This version includes an all-wheel-drive system and is intended for more demanding terrain. It also incorporates BorgWarner’s XWD all-wheel-drive system, which includes a dedicated crawl function and various driving modes for off-road use.

The plug-in hybrid, known as the Plus C-DM, combines a 1.5T petrol engine with a single-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission. It features a 26.6 kWh battery that provides a 150 km electric range as measured by the CLTC standard. The vehicle can achieve a combined range of 1,300 km and supports vehicle-to-load power delivery for both interior and external use.

AI-driven cabin and tech

The interior of the Jetour T1 is centered around a 15.6-inch 2.5K touchscreen running Chery’s proprietary Tour OS. To power this system, the entry model uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor. Higher-end Plus versions are equipped with the more powerful Snapdragon 8255 chip to handle more demanding tasks.

A major highlight of the new software is the integration of large language models. The infotainment system uses DeepSeek and iFlytek Spark to handle voice interactions and manage various cabin functions. This allows for a more natural way for drivers and passengers to communicate with the vehicle's internal systems compared to traditional command-based voice recognition.

Safety and convenience features also vary by trim level. The top-spec Plus configurations include the Falcon 500 driver-assistance package. This suite offers Highway Navigation on Autopilot, automated parking assistance, and automatic emergency braking. Lower configurations still provide Level 2 driver-assistance systems to ensure basic safety features are available across the range.

Dimensions and global reach

The T1 series features specific dimensions tailored to its different models. The standard T1 has a 2,800 mm wheelbase and measures 4,749 mm in length. In contrast, the Plus models are slightly larger with a 2,810 mm wheelbase and a length of 4,796 mm. Despite these differences, they share the same width and height, maintaining a consistent visual profile.

Utility is a key focus, with a side-hinged rear tailgate that includes a 13-litre external storage compartment. When the rear seats are folded down, the cargo area provides a maximum longitudinal depth of 1,940 mm. The standard model offers a ground clearance of 185 mm and a wading depth of 600 mm, while the Plus versions increase these to 200 mm and 700 mm respectively.

The Jetour T1 is already making its way into international markets, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE. In these regions, it sits alongside the larger T2 model, which is known as the Traveller in China. The brand reported that its boxy SUV family has surpassed 840,000 cumulative global sales, with the T1 line specifically accounting for more than 222,000 units.
